Dear Lionsgate parents, My name is Adrian Gorder and I teach Music Appreciation every Wednesday. You have most likely seen my mix CD’s sent home with your children. I hope you enjoyed them as well. We studied the birth and growth of Rock n’ Roll, Soul, Funk, and Heavy Metal. We connected with local country/folk artist Haley Bonar and studied her songs. We talked about emotions, feelings and actions that come with different songs and we analyzed lyrics to better understand each songs meaning. The basic goal of the class is the title of the class, Music Appreciation. I believe this first quarter has been remarkably successful, because of caring parents and open minded teachers, thank you so much. This second quarter of Music Appreciation will be focusing on how music impacts and changes culture. We will look into the foundations of music in classical melodies and tribal drum rhythms. We will look at the Woodstock generation and see the enormous outcomes of the 60’s. We will also be studying the African-American roots of all of our popular music today. A large portion of this quarter will be dedicated to understanding and appreciating Hip-Hop. We will be listening to well thought out and clean songs that show us the reasoning for this brand of music. Believe me, it’s out there, just look beyond the television. I thank you all so much for your continued support in having the students learn how to use and like music in a healthy way. Please feel more than free to ask me any questions or relate any concerns to me via e-mail, agorder@lionsgateacademy.org or adriangorder@yahoo.com.
